If you run a large corporation - Dell, Pepsi, McDonald’s or Coca Cola - social media must seem pretty easy. You have a ton of fans and followers who lap up everything you throw at them (good and bad). You could be a terrible marketer on a large brand and still benefit from social media. But what about those of us running small businesses, or who work on our own? How do we benefit from social media such as Twitter?

Big and famous brands need to do less on social media for gaining more of it, but small businesses have to struggle a lot for gaining popularity on social media. I think twitter is the best social media to begin with if you
are thinking to promote your business on social media for free.

There are some key stages to a successful Twitter account:

Set up
Gaining followers
Improving engagement
Turning potential into sales
Management and monitoring
Measuring success

Identify and follow conversations that are already happening about your business. You don't have to follow everyone who follows you but you definitely want to follow those people that you might want to have a direct conversation with over time.
