Passing Flash Variables

It doesn't seem hard, but I haven't found a single resource on how to pass a variable to a flash instance from outside of the main timeline.

ex. Im passing a looping integer to a movie instance.

So do you mean from outside of the flash document?

Such as inside a webpage?
