Hey everyone,

I am a graphic and web designer finished up my last year of college. One thing that I never learned in class was how to fix certain IE bugs and now they are killing me. the current site that I am working on is www.harvardmassed.com

Currently IE6 rapes the look of my site and in IE7 there is some unwanted space between the photo and the div that contains the text below it. I would like to get the site working in 7 first and then tackle 6. If anyone can give me some insight as to why that extra space is happening that would be great.

Any suggestions for IE6 would be great also. I am using http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/index.php to test my websites since I am coding on a mac in Safari and Firefox.

Thanks,
Erik

Hi,

Yes IE6 is certainly the bain of most of our lives as web designers, and always seems to give unexpected results.

There are certain things that you can do to ease the process, but it generally comes with practice i'm afriad.

General rules of thumbs include, when using divs for layout, try to add spacing using padding of the parent div as opposed margin on the child div. This will avoid the infamous double margin rule.

Also, try resetting your style sheet at the begining with * {margin:0; padding:0;}

This will take out all of IE6's default settings. As a designer, I like to decide exactly where padding and margin should be used, not Internet Explorer.
