Rss Image Thumbnail Generation and Database

Hi,

I've been trying to research how to implement a system similar to the one found here:

http://digifree.blogspot.com/

It's an automated system that searches blog feeds and posts thumbnails with links of items found. I'm sure there is a database backend and some sort of duplicate tracking. Can anyone help point me in the right direction??

I would truly appreciate it.
