Speed Up Website / Keep Server Load Low

Would techniques used to speed up a website loading time also help to keep the server load low? I'm referring to techniques similar to those seen here (http://developer.yahoo.com/performance/rules.html).

I'm going to assume that some techniques would, and some wouldn't. Would I be right in saying that the techniques involving caching information on the users computer would help to keep server load low?
