How to I Gzip my HTML files? Where do I get started?

Do I have to download some sort of software, is it a piece of code. Please help!

You need to have shell access to your account so you can issue commands and the server needs to be running some flavor of *NIX (UNIX, LINIX, BSD, etc.) then it's just a matter of understanding how it works and what the commands are:
