I have a designer who is going to update my website and do the relevant seo to make it rank higher, however I do not want to give my total control over for the website, as I have heard some real problems when you try to get it back, blackmail etc...

So can anyone tell me how to give access so they can edit my website and check the analytical stats?

Please advise, newbie.

if the designer is reputable you have nothing to worry about. All they should need for SEO work is ftp access. Create a new ftp account that only allows access to the folder you site is in.

Alternatively send them a copy of your website and upload it yourself when they are done.
