Is making an entry page (dashboard) for a band's website a horrible idea?

I'm currently working on a new website for a band I design for that will match/set the theme for their new album. I was originally thinking of making a dashboard page (after being inspired by Finger Eleven's website (http://www.fingereleven.com)) that a user would see as soon as they went to the site, instead of a traditional homepage. This dashboard would have buttons/links to continue to the website, myspace, facebook, the street team's website, epk, and whatever else. I was also thinking there should be a mini player on the dashboard to play their single, as well as a video. After clicking on the button/symbol to enter the website, the user would be redirected to the actual website, and there would be a smaller version of the dashboard at the top of each page (not in the actual navigation of the site.)

My question is... Would the dashboard as the homepage decrease the amount of people that would actually continue onto the website, would people skip it and say "forget it"?

Any opinions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!!!:frosty:
