I want to add a slideshow and show a short DVD promo on a website.

I'm thinking Flash. I can't really afford the Adobe Flash software package (600-700).

What recommendations for creating a slideshow from jpegs and are there any programs anyone would care to recommend (it doesn't have to be flash).

And are there any recommendations for showing a DVD (convert it to mpg or swf?) on a website?

for the slide show, you can always just use OpenOffice Impress. or experiment with Movie Maker.
