Accounts for my Site

I am hosting a site on HostMonster, which supports all sorts of funky things I haven't even dabbled in yet. Now, as of yet, I have no content on the site, but I want people to be able to sign up for an account, but of course not log in just yet. I'm just not sure how account registration works really. Please help :)

What type of accounts are you wanting people to sign up for? Are you making a message board or what? I think a little bt more detail will help
