Help with linking to recent threads on a forum

Hello all,

I have a forum that needs a main page. One thing I would like to put on this page is a list of the few most recent threads in each of the four sections. I know I have seen this sort of thing done elsewhere, but I can't figure out how it is done. I am using phpbb.

Could anyone point me in the right direction? I would be quite greatful!
