I have a small web site that is about 70% functional and on schedule to be fully functional by the end of this year.
The problem is that developers created the web site to just get the idea working (me being the biggest offender) and its time to really fix it. The whole personality of the site is of course very very important and I would like to hire out this work. I don't know if I should use a design firm, hire a independent designer or farm out bits and parts.
I want is to have everything converted over to XHTML/CSS, improve the SEO presentation, use professional graphics, and a solid color theme and "personality" for the whole site.
What should I look for in a web designer - what skills, history, background, tool expertise, schooling etc? any suggestion so I don't walk into this blind and get spanked by the first shinny new designer and flashy web portfolio?
Thanks all
