I have a shared hosting account.

I now need SSL on a domain with in my shared hosting account.

My question is do i need to buy the SSL off my host 1and1.co.uk or can i buy any SSL from any company and apply it to my domain?

In most cases you will need your own dedicated IP address which is usually not included as standard on shared hosting. You should be free to purchase an SSL certificate from anyone that issues certificates for your server type although 1&1 may have some rule that will not allow you to purchase a certificate from anywhere else. I suggest you contact 1&1 and ask them what their policy is.
