Easy. Don't plug it in or don't tell anyone the password. Then it's private.

I suspect you mean Virtual private server. The important word being Virtual.

There are many ways to run a server aplication in a virtualised enviroment. For example you could use Userlinux or VMWare to run virtualisations to create simple VPS's. More advance would use a virtuoso based system such as Openvz or a Xen based system. You'll need a linux installation as the base domain then install the Xen or Openvz files and modified kernal. Reboot the make you virualised server(s)/domains.
