Animated GIFs

hi, i want to do some animated GIF's for my website. I'm doing an 'exercise library'. want the GIFs to look like:

do u need any special software to do these?

Adobe Image Ready does this, as will a number of freeware and shareware utilities. Search sites like http://shareware.com for animated gif to find options.
