Reservation software?

I'm building a site for a client who hire out conferencing facilities. I want to create a system which quite simply allows customers to check availability and reserve online.

Does anyone know of anything like this already available, preferably free? A hotel or vehicle hire system could probably be adapted.

Any advice very welcome.
